My Seattle: PIPE + ROW
Have you ever walked into a shop and just thought “YEP! I belong here!”? Well, that is how I felt when I visited PIPE + ROW for the first time. Affordably curated high fashion, a beautiful space that could double as a décor studio, and a large dose of girl power keep pulling me back to this Seattle boutique.

Kayla Boehme, a Seattle native and creator and owner of PIPE + ROW, opened her store to bring high-end, yet attainable pieces to the Seattle community. Through her shop and infectious passion for trendy pieces, she is helping to put this growing Seattle fashion community on the map.
Growing up in an entrepreneurial family, Kayla was seemingly made to run her own business. With her degree in Apparel Design, she had toyed with the idea of opening her own shop, but knowing first hand how hard that would be, she put the idea to the side for the time being. Her various internships in New York City only strengthened her love for the fashion industry and she found herself working with several different brands before landing a job with Aritzia back in Seattle.
As a change of pace she worked at a family business learning the ins and outs of the financial and ownership side of things. With the new skills she learned there, one Monday morning something clicked, and in that moment she knew he needed to finally open her store. In August of 2013 she began the process of planning out her business. Kayla went to market and began buying items for a space that didn’t yet exist.
In April of 2014, she signed a lease for a space in Fremont and in June of that same year, opened up what is now the flagship location of PIPE + ROW. So how did this cool name come about? In an effort to create a brand that was more personal to her, she looked to her family. Her twin niece and nephew to be more specific. Piper and Rowan became the inspiration and the namesake behind PIPE + ROW and you can even see 7-year-old Piper in the store from time to time helping manage and keep everything in line.
With the motto “Not Your Average Staple”, PIPE + ROW aims to fill customer’s closets with unique pieces that stand out but can be worn over and over with all of your favorite go-to closet items. Kayla and her badass girl gang at the store aim to help women push the boundaries of their wardrobe and wear pieces that they never dreamed they could. Empowerment and community are two words that easily describe this shop and the ladies that work there. For example, Kayla always knew she wanted a shop in Fremont from her visits to the neighborhood while she was growing up. Today, she partners with many of the surrounding businesses and even other boutiques to help raise the overall business and love of Fremont. She features local designers in her shop on a regular basis and throws events to allow people to meet the creators, makers, and designers. The practice of community over competition makes this shop such an amazing place to visit.
Just 5 years after deciding to take the leap, PIPE + ROW is quickly becoming a go-to shop for so many women in the city. They are helping the world see the amazingness that is the Seattle fashion community. A must-see place, PIPE + ROW, needs to be on the itinerary of every fashionista in or visiting the Seattle area. Once you stop in, it’ll be hard to leave because the energy from Kayla and her amazing staff is so infectious. Not to mention – they serve rosé from time to time!
Be sure to check out all of PIPE + ROW’s amazing pieces on their online shop, and stop in the store if you are in the area!
