If you love accessories, but have trouble finding unique pieces that are original and show-stopping, I HIGHLY recommend taking a look at JJ Caprices jewelry. I had the pleasure of meeting Jen, the owner of the shop, not too long ago and was fortunate enough to be able to spend time chatting with her about all of her adventures. Jen travels all over the world searching for unique, handmade pieces that she can bring back to the states.

Each piece of jewelry represents the culture and the history of a country or small village that Jen has visited. The making techniques that these men and women use while creating beautiful and intricate pieces tell stories of the traditions that were passed down for generations. Every piece has a story, and every piece is unique. I love hearing about how the accessories came to be and the meaning that they contain.

On JJ Caprices website, you can read the story of how each piece came to life.  One of the pieces featured above is a blown glass beaded necklace from the island of Murano, Italy, just north of Venice. I was fortunate enough to watch the art of glass blowing in Murano and it is such a fascinating and beautiful process. Glass blowing dates back to the 13th century and is still a prominent part of the Venetian culture.  This necklace has such amazing, intricate detail, I can never stop looking at it!

The ring pictured above is a handmade filigree ring from Valletta, Malta, off of the Southern coast of Italy.  Filigree work is a tradition of this tiny island nation.  The pieces from Malta were handcrafted by a father and son duo, Matthew and Maurice. Jen found them during her last visit.  In the shop, Jan watched them take fine pieces of silver and delicately craft them into the intricate pieces that will be sold on Jen’s online shop. Jen described the process as such: “An amazing amount of skill, technique and patience is involved to make them (not to mention really good eyes).  Each one is one of a kind and a work of wearable art.”

Visit JJ Caprices online shop and take a look at all of the beautiful, intricate accessories and delve into the fascinating stories.  Reading these stories and wearing the jewelry from all over the world somewhat fulfills my wanderlust, but also strengthens it! I must travel to these extraordinary places to see where this beautiful art originates from!
