WE BOUGHT OUR DREAM HOME and now we are updating each room to turn to make this house our own. The first space we are updating is our bedroom.
By day, I am an Architect and my husband is on his way to being a licensed architect as well. We are constantly designing, modeling, detailing, and presenting our designs to clients. Until now, there was little overlap in my blog creations and the skills I use for work. Now that we gave a house and so many updates in mind, we have been so excited to start drawing out our house, creating look and feel boards, modeling each space, creating renderings and walkthroughs, and sharing them with my audience! I am excited to begin to showcase my capabilities as a designer on my blog now that we have a space to make our own.
Everything currently in our bedroom will move to our guest room. We are looking forward to having our first king-size bed (courtesy of Lull) so we wont constantly be fighting for elbow room AND fighting for space with our pup, Lucy!

Since this project is moving so quickly after moving into the house, I did not have time to model out the space for renderings, but I put together a quick look and feel board with furniture and finishes to make sure I like everything as a whole.

Above is the look and feel I put together for our bedroom. I am targeting mostly neutrals with hints of blues and greens via throws and lampshades(not yet pictured). While we are going to maintain the wood floors and ceilings throughout the home, we are excited to start to mute some of the wood as it can be overwhelmingly yellow / orange at times. We will be painting the bedroom a clean white using Simply White by Benjamin Moore and painting the wood trim and frames Edgecomb Grey, also Benjamin Moore.
Side note about Benjamin Moore (not sponsored but A GIRL CAN DREAM) – we love many things about Benjamin Moore and plan to use them throughout our home as we update each room. BM offers zero VOC paint that also includes a Declare Label (a nutrition label for building products) to ensure it meets the highest and most strict healthy material and sustainability standards. I also love that BM is only found in smaller stores rather than large chain home improvement stores; we love shopping small!
For the nightstands, we are planning to thrift them either from a local shop or from craigslist. What is shown on the collage is simply what we are hoping to find – fingers crossed!
Overall – we are hoping to keep this room neutral but also somewhat reminiscent of the original house with browns as the main color with black accents. Make sure4 to stay tuned as we share our progress with this room! AND look out for our office update where I will have digital renderings of our space before we begin the work!
